In a few words

International House Cairo (IH Cairo) is part of the International House World Organisation, a global network of 160 language schools in over 50 countries and one of the largest and oldest groups of language schools in the world. IH Cairo offers all learners a well-structured course, a positive and enjoyable learning environment as well as educational support.

IH Cairo is located in Dokki neighborhood, in the heart of Cairo. The neighborhood is quiet yet very central, students can find all the facilities they may need near the school. Students will enjoy a full immersion in Egyptian history, culture and language, as the school is near a lot of touristic places in Cairo, such as: the pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, The Egyptian Museum, Khan El-Khalili, the Fatimid and the Ottoman Cairo.

We follow the CEFR standards (Common European Framework of Reference), which is a global scale of language level. It describes what people can actually do in the language. These abilities start from knowing just a few words, to knowing and using the language almost perfectly.

We offer group and private (one-to-one) courses in Egyptian Colloquial Arabic (ECA) and Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). Also we offer Media Arabic Course and Tailored Arabic courses. All our courses are offered in our school in Cairo and online through Zoom or Skype.

Egyptian Colloquial Arabic ECA is the most commonly understood dialect of Arabic in the Middle East, due to its widespread use in media and music. It provides students with skills to interact with the spoken form of Arabic language used in Egypt.

● The Egyptian Colloquial Arabic (ECA) course has 12 levels, ranging from Beginners (Level One) to Advanced (Level 12). Each ECA level is 40 Hours. Students can book a 2-week course which is equivalent to half level. The ECA Course runs from Sunday to Thursday, 2 hours per session.

Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is the written Arabic language used all over the Arab countries. It is derived from the Classic Arabic which is the language of the Holy Quran. MSA or ‘Fus’ha’ is used in academia and the formal media such as newspapers, meaning that as students’ progress they become able to follow Middle Eastern current affairs and read Arabic literature and Islamic texts.

● The Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) course has 13 levels, ranging from Beginners (Level One) to Advanced (Level 13). Each MSA level is 60 Hours. Students can book a 2-week course which is equivalent to half level. The MSA Course runs from Sunday to Thursday, 3 hours per session.

In our Arabic courses, we focus on Listening, Speaking, Pronunciation, Reading, Writing, Vocabulary, Grammar as well as the fun activities.

We use a combination of in-house teaching materials and textbooks to facilitate learning. We use two acclaimed textbook series: Kallimni Arabi (ECA) and Al-Ketab (MSA) published by the American University in Cairo Press, and Georgetown university, which are used at IH Cairo and commercially available. We have also developed supplementary educational resources to enhance the learning experience and complement our textbook series.

Our Arabic courses are designed to match with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). We offer 12 ECA levels and 13 MSA levels.

Two-week and four-week courses in ECA & MSA are regularly offered throughout the year. 2-week course is a half level of a course and 4-week course is one level of the course.
